How to Get into Commerce or Management

How do I get in? What do I need to know? Where am I at?

These may be questions that are running through your head. Don’t worry I’ve been there and I want to help you feel less confused.

There are a few things you need to know before you apply to get into Commerce or Management. I will make it as simple and easy for you to be able to understand and apply to your desired stream.

There are FOUR required courses for entry into Commerce:

ECO100 – Introduction to Economics

MGM101 – Introduction to Management Functions

MGT120 – Financial Accounting I

MAT133 – Calculus and Linear Algebra for Commerce

There are THREE required courses for entry into Management:

ECO100 – Introduction to Economics

MGM101 – Introduction to Management Functions

MGM102 – Management in a Changing Environment

Listed below are the streams, courses needed and grade. Also, remember these are the minimum grades to get in the class to be able to get into the program.

Accounting:

ECO100 – 63%, MGM101 – 63%, MGT120 – 63%, MAT133/135 – 50%

4.0 credits after the winter semester

Finance:

ECO100 – 63%, MGM101 – 63%, MGT120 – 63%, MAT133/135 – 50%

4.0 credits after the winter semester

Marketing:

ECO100 – 63%, MGM101 – 63%, MGT120 – 63%, MAT133/135 – 50%

4.0 credits after the winter semester

Management:

ECO100 – 63%, MGM101 – 63%, MGM102 – 63%

4.0 credits after the winter semester

Note: The CGPA cutoff varies year to year for each program, and is dependent on the applicant pool. As a reference, last year, the cutoffs to get into Commerce and Management were 2.9 and 3.0 respectively.
